Uh, since when was the Home Alone series ever about divorce? At one point Kevin's father mentions that his family always stays up to watch It's a Wonderful Life because it's one of their traditions. His parents were now in the middle of a divorce, which was very painful to him. The badass Kevin from the originals was reduced to some whiny, 8 year old crybaby.

The kid in this movie was Kevin in name only. However, Kevin, Buzz, and everyone else actually seemed younger than they were in the originals. I understand the use of younger actors, since the originals are now too old. It's like the writers didn't even watch the first two movies. They at least they got it right by using Kevin as the main character, but it was all downhill from there. I watched this movie only because I had nothing better to do, and I wanted to see whether this one would be as big a failure as the third.

It's TV origins definitely showed in the poor production values and acting. Home Alone 4 came out as a made-for-TV movie, on ABC's Wonderful World of Disney. The McCallisters embrace as the film ends. Peter then breaks up with her and Natalie hyperventilates. Prescott resigns and the royal family choose to spend their Christmas with the McCallisters instead of Natalie. The royal family and Natalie arrive and Natalie is confused when she sees Marv, Vera and Molly getting arrested. Prescott knocks her out with a serving tray.Īs Peter, Kate, Buzz and Megan arrive, they and Kevin chase Marv and Vera out of the house and trip them up. Molly, having escaped, grabs Kevin, but Mr. Marv and Vera end up swinging from a chandelier, fall and are knocked unconscious. He also gets Molly trapped in the elevator. He then runs to the bedroom and plays a recording of Marv, making it sound like he's insulting Vera, which causes her to break up with him.
Prescott for misjudging him (and vice-versa), Kevin manages to escape through the dumbwaiter. Kevin gets locked in the basement after apologizing to Mr. But then he discovers Marv and Vera's real ally is actually Molly the maid, who turns out to be Marv's mother. Since no one believes him about the heist, Kevin decides to deal with matters himself, and sets booby traps for Marv and Vera and locks Mr. When Kevin breaks his promise not to mess up the special occasion, Peter gets mad and believes that Kevin is trying to end his relationship with Natalie. The royal family are unable to attend the party because their flight was cancelled so Peter and Natalie instead announce their engagement. Kevin has them fall out and break his bedroom window, then has Mr. Prescott, who Kevin now believes to be Marv and Vera's ally.Īt a party for the royal family, Kevin notices Marv and Vera dressed up as caterers.
He attempts to use the security camera footage to prove himself, but discovers that the camera had been turned off and is caught by Mr. Kevin drives them away by flooding the house, but Peter and Natalie arrive while Kevin is cleaning up and Peter doesn't believe Kevin's explanation. While Natalie and Peter are away, Kevin notices his old nemesis Marv and new sidekick Vera (taking the place of Harry) outside the house. Kevin enjoys life at Natalie's mansion, until he goes into the security room, where he runs into Mr. After initially refusing, Kevin takes his father up on his offer after being tormented by his older brother Buzz (who is not even a teenager). He tells his three children, including Kevin, that they are hosting the visit of a royal family and invites everyone to spend Christmas with him and Natalie. Peter is about to get divorced from Kate and announces that he's living with his new girlfriend, Natalie. And most insulting of all, Kevin is younger than he is and this is supposed to be a sequel to the second film when the kid doesn't even look like Kevin from the first two films! Some decent actors like French Stewart and Missi Pyle are definitely miscast, and so is Mark Wineburg as Kevin! This film also has the distinction to bring back several characters from the first two films, Kevin and the MaCallisters, as well as Marv but not one of the original actors are back and everyone is written wrong, and they made Marv look more like Harry and have a female foil that acts more like Harry. At least Home Alone 3 had some enjoyable scenes. This movie has nothing to recommend it, not even the gadget-filled house. I am just wondering whether I am the only one who honestly thought Home Alone 3 would be the worst, because the characters were changed, but was proved wrong by this abomination. in reality, Home Alone 3 is only adequate, but the first two movies are sterling entertainment, I can promise you that. Home Alone 4 is so bad, it makes Home Alone 3 look like a masterpiece.
